It is also known as the "Satyagraha ashram", founded in 1918, the place was a gift to Mohandas Gandhi by his friend Barrister Jivanlal Desai. The ashram was developed by Gandhiji after came back from South Africa. It is a place where one could see Gandhijs simplicity and his old work and books, also there are some of his "charkhas" and his old closet. In the ashram there is also one area devoted to meditations and speeches, it's a place where there are the symbols of different religions which depicts that every per- son has one common religion, which is humanity. Yet, the Kocharab ashram is not very famous In Ahmedabd, specially in the young age. But comparatively sabarmsti ashram is very known. Gandhiji had to relocate the ashram on river bank of sabarmati due to some epidemic near by. And also there were more pos- sibility for expansion and more activities could be possible such as creating hand made papers.
